Within a year of its release Windows was able to cross Windows Vista in the Operating System market share and was running even faster to beat Windows XP also. Windows 7 sales grown tremendously in 2009 holiday season. The reason might be, presently 95% of softwares, utility tools and other system oriented tool were Windows7 Compatible.
In Between November and December 2009, the market share regarding to Windows has dropped from 92.52% to 92.21%, Mac OS declined from 5.12% to 5.11% but linux was the only operating system to show positive growth in market share from 1.00% to 1.02%.
Windows 7 is the fastest selling OS ever for Microsoft and is presently selling more than 7 copies a second. Windows 7 has took just 10 months to achieve what Vista did in 4 years. By this we can understand how much popular Windows 7 is?
Though both these operationg systems are fighting, Windows XP tops the market share with percentage of 53.92. But Windows XP was quickly declining month-over-month as users were migrating to Windows 7. Windows XP has gone down as much as 24% since Windows 7 has released. Even though Windows is losing its share slowly but Windows 7 has done phenominally well and lowered the decreasing rate of Windows.
In terms of Operating systems, Windows XP declined from 69.05% to 67.77%, Windows Vista dropped from 18.55% to 17.87% and Windows 7 gained from 4.00% to 5.71%. In the versions of MAC OS:version 10.4 dipped from 0.84% to 0.8%, version 10.5 drowned from 2.61% to 2.47% and version 10.6 gained from 1.38% to 1.60%.
At the end of 2010 we can estimate Windows 7 to surpress Windows XP and drop its media share below 50% and MAC OS X 10.6 to cross 10.5 and 10.4 combined.

windows is the king but it sucks…. but win7 is a relief.
Had To Be…Vista was a Bit Downer!
As long as windows 7 wasn’t out, I used XP instead of Vista. Despite the face that Vista was cool, it was not the right OS. But Windows 7 deserves to be in the list of all time best OS.
