Social Bookmarking is a process for Internet users to share, organize and manage bookmarks of the web resources.
Users will also provide the description that is added to these bookmarks in the form of metadata, so that other users can understand content of the resource without downloading it. Such descriptions may be free text comments, votes in favor of or against its quality, or tags that collectively or collaboratively become a folksonomy.
Folksonomy is also called social tagging, “the process by which many users add metadata in the form of keywords to shared content”.
In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains.
The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine.
Many social bookmarking services provide web feeds for their lists of bookmarks, including lists organized by tags. This allows subscribers to become aware of new bookmarks as they are saved, shared, and tagged by other users.

- Mixx : Mixx is a user-driven social media web site that serves to help users submit or find content by peers based on interest and location.
- Tweetmeme : TweetMeme finds the hottest stories from twitter for you to retweet
- Diigo : Diigo is a social bookmarking website which allows signed-up users to bookmark and tag web-pages
- Backflip : Automatically organizes personal bookmarks into a searchable hierarchical directory.

In the Entire list of 50 Social Bookmarking Website, I Suggest you to use any 5 of the websites. But I use Stumble Upon, Digg, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, which helps me to drive huge traffic. It was only because of help of these sites I made my site into Top 70k Alexa Website.

These social bookmarking sites gave me a good grade when I used it as my topic in my research papers.

I have generated lot of traffic for my website using only 5 of the above listed. The problem with others is, they themseleves are not quite popular among masses.
1.Reddit: I simply love reddit for the fact that you get a burst of traffic instantly. You dont have to wait even for 10 secs to get good amount of traffic.
2.Digg : Mostly, I get traffic from digg users who search for news.
3.Technorati: Another good source, lot of buzz around it.
4.Stumble upon: Similar to Reddit, short burts of instant traffic.
5.Twitter : Another guaranteed source of traffic. Use bit.ly to monitor your clicks, It helps. Follow atleast 2000 followers to get decent traffic.
THUMB RULE: DONT SPAM, THESE SITES DO BAN PEOPLE WHO CONTRIBUTE THE LINKS FROM SAME SITE.
