We are back again with our Tuesday SEO Special from Mr.Om Thoke. Every Tuesday, you’ll get to learn some of the best SEO tips that will help you in improving the visibility of your blog in eyes of search engines, and in turn help in boosting up your SERP rankings.
In our previous article we have discussed about Understanding the Basic concept of SEO. Today, we’ll be taking a look at a list of top seo tips that can help in improving your SERP rankings drastically, and driving a whole lot of traffic to your blog.
#1. Adding Google Sitemap
There are certain plugins available to get this done. In case of WordPress, you can download the Google sitemap plugin, and install it. Once the plugin is activated, it will create a sitemap for Google, but this sitemap will notify other search engines about updates made to your blog as well.

#2. Adding Right Meta Keywords
Instead of struggling with HTML meta tags, simply download – ‘all in one SEO pack’ plugin, and activate it. Once you activate, go to ‘Options Configuration Panel’ and where you need to check ‘enable plugin’ option, enter Homepage title, description, and KWs. You should make use of Keyword Tracking tool to find 5-6 relevant keywords.

For example, if you’ve got a blog on ‘web proxy servers’, you should consider putting KWs like best free web proxy servers, top web proxy servers, top 10 web proxy servers, and the top 5-6 keywords that you find in WordTracker search results.

#3. Linking Carefully
If you own multiple blogs, linking across various blogs must be done with utmost care, because linking to bad neighborhood can put you in whole lot of trouble. Hence, even when you’re writing blog posts, you must interlink blogs very carefully.
Don’t try to link to other niches unnecessarily; for example, if you run an SEO company, Gadget review blog, automotive blog, music blog, and job portal, inter-linking all of them may not be a wise idea.

#4. Choosing Links in Blogroll
As mentioned in tip#3, inter-linking blogs of irrelevant niches will do more harm than good, so don’t put all your blogs in the Blogroll – even if you own all the blogs, just link to the ones that are relevant to a particular niche.

#5. Limiting Number of Links on Homepage
If you’ve more than 100 links on the homepage, the pagerank juice gets passed on to the homepage. I’ve been a victim of this foolishness in past, as my homepage of latest-technews.com was just PR2, while inner pages had PR3, PR4, and even PR5.
And, to my dismay I discovered that there were about 212 outbound links on my homepage, no wonder even categories pages had PR3 but homepage had PR2 – so don’t repeat this mistake – don’t create a link-farm on your homepage (or any page for that matter)
