- Ratan Tata unvieled the People’s car today. Before the release there were rumours that the 1 lakh car was named Tata Jeh. Some liked calling it Tata Indiva. I can’t remember any other new car release getting so much attention. Tata Nano received as much hype and attention which a Rajinikanth movie would get on the day of its release, in TamilNadu. The technical specifications of Tata Nano are as mentioned below.
- Looks:- The snub-nosed car keeps in the tradition of the Fiat 500, Nissan Micra and the Smart.
- Dimensions:- 3.1 metres (10.23 feet) long, 1.5 metres wide and 1.6 metres high. Can seat four to five people.
- Engine:- A two cylinder 623 cc, 33 horsepower rear mounted, all aluminium, multi-point fuel injection petrol engine can power the car to top speeds of 105 kilometres per hour (65 miles per hour).
- Fuel Efficiency:- 20 kilometres per litre, or 50 miles per gallon is claimed. Pollution: Exceeds Indian regulatory requirements and can meet strict Euro IV emission standards. In terms of overall pollutants, Tata says the car is better than two-wheelers manufactured in India currently.
- Safety:- Car exceeds current regulatory requirements with a strong passenger compartment, crumple zones, intrusion resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorage.
- Initial Annual Production Target:- 250,000 units to rise later to 350,000.
- PRICE:- Basic model price 100,000 rupees (2,500 dollars) plus tax and transport costs, which will bring on the road price to at least 120,000 rupees. The price of two deluxe models that will include air-conditioning and other features to be announced later.
- Nearest Domestic Car Rival:- Maruti 800, part of Japanese-owned Suzuki Maruti stable whose base model sells for about 4,800 dollars — nearly double the price of the Nano.
- Nearest International Rival:- China`s Chery QQ which retails for 3,600 dollars. Sales: Tata will focus on selling the car in India for the next two to three years, before eyeing Latin American and Southeast Asian markets.
- Market:- India`s car market is a huge draw because car penetration is just seven per 1,000 people, compared to 550 per 1,000 in such countries as Germany or 476 in France, according to the Society of Indian Automobiles.
- Company Details:- Tata Motors is India`s largest vehicle company with revenues of 7.2 billion dollars in 2006-2007. It is the leader in commercial vehicles, such as trucks and buses, and the second largest in passenger vehicles. There are over four million Tata vehicles on Indian roads.
- >Environment:- Tata said tailpipe emission performance exceeded current regulatory requirements, and the Nano had a lower overall pollution level than two-wheelers made in India. It said high fuel efficiency (20 km/litre) ensured low carbon dioxide emissions.
- The car, like other small cars is a four door and five-seater car that promises to be a compact good performance family car. The basic model will not have power-steering, electric windows or AC, though there are two deluxe models of this car, which will have AC. A small 33 bhp 624cc engine will be provided at the rear of the car and its ergonomic design is sure to suit well to the Indian traffic. The car looks absolutely chic and sleek and lives up to the urban styling.
- Tata Motors unveils the People’s Car:-A comfortable, safe, all-weather car, high fuel efficiency & low on emissions
- Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group and Tata Motors, today unveiled the Tata ‘NANO’, the People’s Car from Tata Motors that India and the world have been looking forward to. A development, which signifies a first for the global automobile industry, the People’s Car brings the comfort and safety of a car within the reach of thousands of families. The People’s Car will be launched in India later in 2008.
- Stylish, comfortable:- The People’s Car, designed with a family in mind, has a roomy passenger compartment with generous leg space and head room. It can comfortably seat four persons. Four doors with high seating position make ingress and egress easy. Yet with a length of 3.1 metres, width of 1.5 metres and height of 1.6 metres, with adequate ground clearance, it can effortlessly manoeuvre on busy roads in cities as well as in rural areas. Its mono-volume design, with wheels at the corners and the powertrain at the rear, enables it to uniquely combine both space and manoeuvrability, which will set a new benchmark among small cars. When launched, the car will be available in both standard and deluxe versions. Both versions will offer a wide range of body colours, and other accessories so that the car can be customised to an individual’s preferences.
- Fuel-efficient engine:-The People’s Car has a rear-wheel drive, all-aluminium, two-cylinder, 623 cc, 33 PS, multi point fuel injection petrol engine. This is the first time that a two-cylinder gasoline engine is being used in a car with single balancer shaft. The lean design strategy has helped minimise weight, which helps maximise performance per unit of energy consumed and delivers high fuel efficiency. Performance is controlled by a specially designed electronic engine management system.
- Meets all safety requirements:-The People’s Car’s safety performance exceeds current regulatory requirements. With an all sheet-metal body, it has a strong passenger compartment, with safety features such as crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body. Tubeless tyres further enhance safety.
- Environment-friendly:- The People’s Car’s tailpipe emission performance exceeds regulatory requirements. In terms of overall pollutants, it has a lower pollution level than two-wheelers being manufactured in India today. The high fuel efficiency also ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions, thereby providing the twin benefits of an affordable transportation solution with a low carbon footprint.
- The launch was no less than a landmark in the history of the Indian automobile industry. Ratan Tata compared this launch to the launch of the first powered flight by the Wright Brothers as well as the first landing on the moon. It was Tata’s dream to make a car that almost everyone could afford, could meet all safety norms and emission laws and provided a much better driving experience than a bike. He proved critics and cynics today when they said that a car with all those features could not be manufactured at such a low price.
Commenting upon the myths that surrounded the car, he calmly argued said that the car is capable of a good performance and is far better than most of the motorbikes on the Indian roads. Hope this car revolutionizes the way Indian think and we get to see this sleek beauty zooming on the roads soon!

the nano look and color both are very good and this is very cheap ,but there will be disadvantages of it also.
thanks
