Solar camera strap is latest technology which is still under process, this technology will come very handy for photographers(nature, wildlife etc),tourists. Most digital SLR cameras are powered by lithium-ion batteries which are to be recharged frequently using electric outlet. If the battery exhausted and photographer didn’t have spare battery with him then it means the end of the photo shoot. But this problem is going to end in few years or may be months because of this solar camera strap technology, thank Weng Jie the inventor of this concept.
How it works?
The strap attached to camera consists of a row of tiny flexible solar panels on it which enables the camera batteries to be recharging whenever the photographer is shooting in daylight. A storage battery is built into each end of the strap which stores the power produced by solar panels. The batteries inside the camera are not directly recharged using this solar strap but the built-in batteries of the strap does the work.

It seems likely cameras would need some modification to allow them to be powered by the solar camera strap itself. From the inbuilt batteries of the strap there will be a connection to the each of the camera battery, so that it gets recharged. Casp at each end of the strap helps battery to recharge, strap also consists of DC out which can be plugged into your camera.
There are devices like this in past but they failed to perform because of high power consumption of the devices in those days. But this time it may be more successful because power required for modern cameras is very low. The strap is only at the concept stage and is not yet available and there is no word on when or if it will ever be commercialized.

hope for the best…
@ sivaram
thanq dude…in b\w as far as i know life span doesn’t increases by using solar powered strap …
nice post dude… This will definitely decreases the Battery consumption a lot and will be more useful for the photo freaks…
@sagar
yep dude battery usage decreases which is good for our Earth
wow.. thats amazing
hope will come to market soon..
Wow! This will be a great thing when it finally comes to the market. A real boon for the photographers. And not to forget the green effect it will have.

For how much cost is this available.Where can I buy it. You would have provided such info also..
@Venu its still in the idea stage. Need to develop it and then have to release. According to my estimation it may b launched into market by 2011
Wow, such a great article man, You’ve got a lot from digg
This looks awesome! I wish this device came out right now! I have a humongous need for longer battery life on my SLR. Crossing fingers this comes out before I croak – lol
others products which consume less power should get inspired of this technology…
really one of the good product, we are facing energy crisis and this product will save us from it. thanks for the share
ohh thanq bro…yep it is going to help us a lot in saving energy…
when will it be available commercially.
This is less than marginally useful. You’d probably have to sit out in the sun all day to get an hour’s worth of usage on a pretty small point and shoot. Certainly not any SLR. The surface area of solar panels is directly proportional to their ability to produce current, and most cameras have a minimum threshold for incoming voltage. There are messenger bags with solar panels much larger than this to charge iPods and they don’t work, so it will be no surprise to me when the people that buy this do so to look eco-friendly, even though it is not. It is a good idea, unfortunately the reality is that the technology is not that good just yet.
