Manage Security and File Permissions in WordPress

by Debajyoti on August 31, 2010

Guest article by Debajyoti Das from Snaphow. This is a gift for all our readers on account of our 3rd anniversary celebrations.

I have to admit that I have always problems with file and directory permissions when installing or modify some of my WordPress Installation contents. Those CHMOD problems.

But recently I found WP Security Scan Plugin that examines the state of all your WordPress installed folders and file permissions and check them to avoid both common security problems of WordPress as well as files permissions for plugins.

So far the plugin has many very good options, security passwords, review of the database, but what I like the most is that it allows you to see if the permissions on files and directories are correct.

Features of WP Security Scan :

Scans your WordPress installation for security vulnerabilities and suggests corrective actions against the following :

  • Passwords
  • File permissions
  • Database Security
  • Version Hiding
  • WordPress Admin Protection/Security
  • Removes WP Generator META tag from Core Code

Also in future plugin updates there are plans to add other features to the plugin, such as XSS vulnerability scanning, change permissions with a single click, detecting and preventing intrusions, brute force hacking attempts etc.
