Social Bookmarking has definitely emerged as a major tool to attract instant traffic. The good part is, you don’t have to worry about the search engine optimisation and you get heavy influx of visitors with relatively less effort.
Majority of webmasters opt for popular social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon and Delicious but ignore the lesser known Reddit. If you are owner of a new blog and you frown upon the low visitor count, then you seriously need to consider Reddit for that traffic punch.
So how different is Reddit from others you may ask?
After all it’s also a social bookmarking site isn’t it?
Well, to understand Reddit you will have to first understand who the users are and what do they expect from the links that are submitted. Redditors(users of Reddit), as they are called are mostly young Americans who like Humour, Technology, Politics, News, Amazing and funny pictures, Personal stories or anything that will surely generate a comment.
Redditors are very strict about the content and anything that is spammy or dull will be voted down and you will end up with little or no traffic. Amongst all the Social bookmarking sites, Reddit has the strongest feeling of a community.
So to tap Reddit’s traffic, the first step is to have a good Title. You should have a catchy and well written Title for your content. The Title can make or break your submission as users tend to click those links that have a catchy Title. The Title you write on Reddit can always be different from your actual article Title.
Here are a few examples of a Good titles that have hit the Frontpage of Reddit
- How the Internet is making us stupid
- I woke up this morning and found this in my mailbox!!
- 12 Of The Most Iconic Photographs Ever Taken
- I still think this is a way better show than Wipeout
Hopefully with these examples you get the point I am trying to make as to how important your first step is. Now coming to the content, As pointed earlier, Redditors are very cruel to anyone submitting bad content and will vote you down without any hesitation and vice versa vote you up if you have really compelling content.

Even if you do not have an extraordinary content, you will surely end up with at least few visitors to your site with an average content.
Here are the points that you need to consider in your content.
- Redditors love Multimedia in an article, especially the unique ones or a list or compilation of Images or Videos.
- Lesser ads on article page. Even though it may take a hit on your earnings it will definitely end up giving the users better experience of your site.
Now once you are ready with both the Title and content, the next step is to submit it. On Reddit, there are the main category and sub categories. The problem of submitting in the main category is that it moves down the list pretty fast which means you will have a very short time for people to see your link. So go for the sub category, there are more chances of you hitting the frontpage in a sub category than the main category. Also, you get to target the users for your content which works out pretty well.
I have seen links that have only 5 up votes, stay in subcategory for many hours. I suggest you submit stories in main category on a few occasions and test what works for you.
If you are new to Reddit, you might notice in your account something called Karma point which decides your authority on Reddit. Your Karma points increase when you post quality content and get many top votes.
It also depends on how well you interact with the community, post comments and submit interesting content. So you will have to earn your karma points in order to garner maximum attention on Reddit.
So, before submitting our next link on Reddit remember these points
- According to Reddit, if you spend more time submitting to Reddit than reading it, you’re almost certainly a spammer. Reddit’s moderators can ban you, so involve in the community.
- Do not create multiple accounts to vote your link up.
- Make friends with other Redditors. Send them private message, ask for tips as to how you can involve in community more.
- It’s not forbidden to submit content from your own blog, but do mix it up with content from other sites.
- Do not get let down by the fact that your story was not rated, instead learn what needs to be done.
- Makes sure you have Reddit button on your blog so that other users can share the content.
Keeping these things in mind, Hopefully, Reddit will now help your blog get more visibility.images

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My site has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either written myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my permission. Do you know any techniques to help protect against content from being stolen? I’d certainly appreciate it. Kudos!
