Guys, it’s our turn now, Confussed???? I’m saying about the the recent achievement of an Indian IT firm, it’s none other than “EPIC BROWSER” launched on 15th july (Thursday). Yup, a Bangalore based IT firm “Hidden Reflex“ has come up with this concept of ‘Browser for Indians’ on Mozilla Firefox Platform in partnership with several other Big Commercial Giants of India. They have launched Epic browser which has extremely good features and aims at making Indians all over the world proud. Epic, which also happens to be the first entirely Indian made web browser, based on the popular browser platform Mozilla Firefox. A new entrant to highly competitive browser market leading by Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera and comes with quite a bunch of India centric features. Before we look at the details, let’s look at details about Hidden Reflex, the company behind the browser. It’s Named as Epic Browser.
The company was founded by the then U.S. based Engineer Alok Bhardwaj in 2007. However, the company is currently based in Bangalore. They initially had a team of three members and have now grown to quite a bunch of people who are working on two separate products. The first one, Epic, has already been launched. The other one is still in the making.
Internet in India is becoming familiar and closer to people and is used on a very large scale, mind you many India students were now crazy about Internet and are settling in the web based jobs. Thousands of people today are accessing internet in India for variant purposes like Education, Entertainment, Blogging, Jobs etc. But India being a multilingual country, with people speaking different languages in different parts of India, so Epic is surely going to be a very useful browser for the Indian users especially.

Presently 3 browsers were leading in the race and are fighting for the No1 place i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, its not going to be easy to participate in the competition with these browsers. The best example is Maxthon browser which is released for giving competition for these 3 giants. We can consider the Maxthon as a best example which has gained huge popularity in China, but till now it remains unknown to most in major parts of the world.

- My first impression with Epic Browser is awesome with Colorful background(many themes available) and Menu interface similar to Firefox doesn’t make you feel working on new stuff.
- Application sidebar on left side can be managed on choice(Open/Close) and selection of Apps is a great experience with all intuitive icons on left and you are free to explore 1500+ Themes and Backgrounds for Epic.
- You can access the Personas from Skin tab in Applications sidebar and ability to create custom themes by adding a wallpaper of your choice from Computer. This option is really a killer which makes your browser very customizable.
#2. Custom Apps and Addon Suppport
- Sidebar applications will be its most important feature as you get app for each and every essential thing by default. Let it be news, Social networking sites or Listening radio or Web TV.
- Everything is available at a click inside the browser on the left pane. Even you can browse Local folders on My computer or enjoy Orkut, Twitter, Facebook like apps while working side by side. Along with the built in apps, 100% of all addons and plugins for Firefox works on Epic.

Here are the few default and standard apps of Epic:
- India: This app is a very new kind of one, providing the top stories taking place in and around the country. We can also watch Live TV of channels like NDTV India, NDTV Profit, IBN Live without any streamimng problems.
- Indic: Typing in Indian Regional Languages. This was a real pain for naive user but with Epic, you don’t have to install anything and type in any Indian regional languages on the go. Total 12 Languages are supported which includes Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Nepali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati and Sanskrit.
- Skin your Epic: The Epic browser is highly customizable and after the first installation, you will notice the vibrant colours of it. It initially comes with a “Peacock” background which seems a bit uncomfortable for the eyes. With around zillions of backgrounds provided by the browser to choose from, this does not seem to be a difficulty. With the launch of the Epic browser, you shall be entitled to over 1500 themes to choose from, which are compatible and available for the Epic.
- Run the Anti-Virus: Epic has anti-virus software in it that would scan and fix it. Further, the browser warns of any potentially dangerous websites and has anti-phishing protection feature.
- Epic write: This is similar to a MS-Word document, here we can easily write and edit the documents staying with in the browser.
- Snippets: Useful for taking screenshots of webpages – either select certain image or a paragraph and drag-and-drop it to the snippet sidebar or take a complete screenshot of a webpage.
- My Computer: Browse your computer directly from the browser; You can open upto 5 tabs in the Computer sidebar.
- To-do List: A great app that really wins our heart and it can in incorporate up to 10 TO-dos.
- Few apps for Social networks, E-mail accounts and Twitter in sidebar: Social networks include FaceBook, Orkut etc.
- History: Epic is very careful about your privacy, it has a private browsing icon and a clear browsing data icon in the address bar.
- Bookmarks: Just the same as in Firefox browser, Self-explanatory.
- Timer: Need not run to your cupboard to pick your stopwatch up with the timer feature in Epic browse
- Maps: Get directions with epic maps – Google maps integration.
- Collections: Save similar websites to one collection by clicking the collection icon next to the tabs. To load them, open the collections sidebar and click on the collection’s title.
- Backup files: By logging in to your gmail account and now, initially, each file size is limited to 10 MB mark. It is expected to increase soon.
As mentioned above Epic browser has 1500+ sidebar applications, but we recommend you to keep the number of applications minimum so that the blazing speed of Epic will be maintained.

Sounds great that itz an Indian browser, but it might b a hard job to compete wid the exiting browsers.
Wonderful achievement…i liked it.. i am downloading it. i liked the Indian regional language support.
Internet gets a little Desi touch….
