Computer Forensics is a branch of ”Forensic Science” pertaining to legal evidence found in computers and digital storage mediums.
Computer forensics is also known as ”Digital Forensics”.
It involves the preservation, identification, extraction, documentation, and interpretation of computer media for evidentiary and root cause analysis.
Examples of Computer Forensics:
- Recovering thousands of deleted emails.
- Recovering evidence post formatting hard drive.
- Performing investigation after multiple users had taken over the system.
With computers becoming more and more involved in our everyday lives, both professionally and socially, there is a need for computer forensics. This field will enable crucial electronic evidence to be found, whether it was lost, deleted, damaged, or hidden, and used to prosecute individuals that believe they have successfully beaten the system.

Cool post. I’ll bookmark this and add it to my site. Do you think forensics, and the careers, will evolve into more science than field work? I see computer forensics gaining a huge following as electronic data replaces hard copies and paperwork.
@Chuck Yup, they are going to evolve….
