I am sure that all the webmasters would be serious to make their pages and content Search Engine friendly to get Organic Traffic. I am also sure that there are still a good percent of webmasters who never care about the Optimization of Images for the spiders.
Please have in mind that traffic from Google images is also important for any website. So you cannot simply ignore and add some junk images in your website/Blog. Here are few simple ways/tips to optimize your Image for search engines.
#1. ALT Tag
- This is the main thing that you must consider while doing the image optimization.
- Have a habit to add the ALT tag for all the images you upload in your Blog/site because the spider recognizes this ALT Tag as the name.
- This ALT tag is displayed as the name of the image in the search results. You must always give the Keyword as your ALT tag i.e. the keyword for which you want the images to get ranked.
#2. File Name
- This also plays a major role in the image Search engine rank position so have an eye on it. Do not give some junk names for the images that you use.
- Always have the habit to use the keyword as the file name i.e. again the targeted keyword must be used here.

#3. Caption of the Image
- I would say this will help but not to the core. This will be displayed as a descriptive text below your images so again use your keyword.
- Please avoid using your keywords at any other places other than this as it will make the whole process artificial.
#4. Title of the Image
- This is shown as a help text when the users hovers the text over the image i.e. like a simple description. This has nothing to do with the SEO so you can name it as you want.
- Please do not use the keywords here instead give some informative thing to your readers.
#5. Use keywords around the images
- You must use the targeted keywords around the image in your post or you can place/add the image on the place where your targeted keywords are used more.
- Please have in mind that more number of keywords will definitely make readers annoy so add it naturally.
#6. Do not make images clickable
- I have seen in many places where I can click the images to maximize it. This is a good thing in terms of reader perspective but spiders hate this. So please avoid doing it.

- Do not add images of size 1024*1024 as that is not good for search engine optimization. It is always advised to limit images below 500*500 as that is good for search engines.

Hi Sathish,
Thanks dude
Well never tried the last one before.
I have never thought of hyperlinking my images. Is it of any use? I dont think so.
Thanks for the tips Praveen. Got some new tips.
I have a question: Is ALT tag plays any role in increasing keyword density?
@Dheeraj Alt Tag plays role in Image Optimization, But you can’t treat the Alt tag as a Keyword, but placing the keyword as alt tag helps Search Engines to understand your post.
