Microsoft have been started to take steps to improve the privacy of it’s Bing users. In action to that they have been taking measures to reduced the storage of entire log containing the Internet Protocol address associated with search queries from 18 months to six months.
Microsoft officials said “that they would reduce the amount of time for storing the User IP addresses of users searching at Bing search-engine from 18 months to 6 months”.
Over the past few years based on rapid increase in Cyber Crimes the Web Giants like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo have made efforts to reduce the amount of time the information is stored in the web.
As a preceding step for that, Microsoft has reduced the storage time from 18 months to 6 months.
Initially, Bing takes search data and separates the user’s account information (such as e-mail or phone number) from the non-personal information (such as what the query was) and after 18 months of time it deletes the IP address.
But now this time period has been reduced to 6 months to provide greater user privacy protection, while the rest of the process remains the same.
