Over the past few years based on rapid increase in Cyber Crimes the Web Giants like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo have made efforts to reduce the amount of time the information is stored in the web.
As a preceding step for that, Microsoft has reduced the storage time from 18 months to 6 months.
Initially, Bing takes search data and separates the user’s account information (such as e-mail or phone number) from the non-personal information (such as what the query was) and after 18 months of time it deletes the IP address.
But now this time period has been reduced to 6 months to provide greater user privacy protection, while the rest of the process remains the same.
The sources said that “the change will be implemented over the next 12 to 18 months”.
Presently Google is deleting the User IP details for every 9 months and Yahoo done the same for every 3 months.
