eCPM is a bit of industry shorthand that seems here to stay. You've seen it listed in your AdSense reports; it means, "effective cost per thousand impressions." So how is eCPM calculated, you ask?
eCPM is calculated by dividing total earnings by total number of impressions in thousands. It is a great performance measure for your various ad units, so when experimenting, you can use eCPM to compare your results.
But what if your site doesn't receive enough impressions to have a large sample size? Even for smaller sites, eCPM can be a useful statistic to track ad performance.
For example, let's imagine we have two custom channels named 'RED Skyscrapers' and 'GREEN Rectangles', respectively, which reflect the types of ad formats we're testing on our site. During our test, the 'RED Skyscrapers' channel receives 370 page impressions and $1.48 in total earnings. The 'GREEN Rectangles' channel receives 187 page impressions and $0.97 in earnings over the same period. To make these figures more comparable we calculate eCPM -- i.e., the estimated earnings for every 1,000 impressions received. We find that eCPM for RED skyscrapers is $4.00 while the eCPM for Green rectangles is $5.18.
This means if we received 1,000 impressions of RED skyscrapers, we would earn roughly $4.00. But for 1,000 impressions of GREEN , we would earn about $5.18. Therefore, assuming that our sample size is large enough, it is to our advantage to switch to Green throughout our site because they generate more revenue per impression.
eCPM = Total Earnings/Impressions*1000

Be careful when using ctrl+c for copy
We do copy various data by ctrl+c for pasting elsewhere. This copied data is stored in clipboard and is accessible from the net by a combination of Javascripts and ASP.
Just try this:
1) Copy any text by ctrl+c
2) Click the Link:
http://www.friendlycanadian.com/appl.../clipboard.htm
3) You will see the text you copied on the Screen which was
accessed by this web page.
Do not keep sensitive data (like passwords, credit card numbers, PIN etc.) in the clipboard while surfing the web. It is extremely easy to extract the text stored in the clipboard to steal your sensitive information.
************************************************** ***********************************
Fortunately, the fix for this is also quite simple:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security
2. Click on Custom Level
3. In the security settings, click to Disable the Allow Paste Operations via Script. That will keep your clipboard contents private.

File sharing and permissions in Windows XP seem complicated.
Microsoft provides a Knowledge Base article, but reading it is like walking through molasses: It describes in infinite detail a file security system based on a 1-to-5 scale. However, if you look for this 1-to-5 scale anywhere in your security-settings interface, you may come away a little confused. These numbers are nowhere to be found.
Microsoft's 1-to-5 scale means nothing to the individual user and relates in no way to the actual practice of setting your security protocols. Enter the Screen Savers. We are here to explain it to you.
The security settings the user actually sets relate to read access, write access, shared folders, and password protection. These features are available in both Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional, however the features only work if the operating system is installed with NTFS. FAT32 does not support the file permissions described here.
You can choose to install Windows XP Home using NTFS, but you should use a FAT32 file system if you are dual booting and want to see the contents of your Windows 95, 98, or Me partition from your XP partition. Your file system is not set in stone when you install Windows XP. You always can change your file system from FAT32 to NTFS without losing any of your data; however, the transition is one-way only.
There is no going back to FAT32 from NTFS unless you grab a copy of Partition Magic. Microsoft recommends you install Windows XP Home with FAT32 if you intend to install more than one OS on your computer or if your hard drive is less than 32GB.
If you have Windows XP Home or Professional running NTFS, you can hide files and entire folders from prying eyes. When you set up multiple user accounts on one machine, any user with administrator access can view the documents in another's My Documents folders. To protect a folder, right-click it, choose Properties, the Share tab, and select "make this folder private." No one, not even a fellow system administrator, can access these most secret files.
Every file or folder contained within whichever folder you choose to make private will take on the settings of the parent folder. If the administrator does not have a password to the account, Windows XP will prompt the user to make a password or risk subjecting his or her private work to public scrutiny. No Windows password means no protected files.
A person who logs in as a guest or as a user without administrator privileges cannot see the contents of any other user's My Documents folder, even if the folder has not been explicitly made private. The user with limited privileges can, however, set a password and protect his or her documents from the prying eyes of the administrators. Windows XP is all about privacy.
It is a nice feeling to keep your personal tax documents secure from the passing lookey-loo. It's about time Microsoft made snooping your computer more difficult than snooping your medicine cabinet.

You can turn off window animation ("exploding" windows), displayed when you play around with minimizing/maximizing open windows. This makes navigating Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP a lot quicker, especially if you don't have a fast video controller, or if you got tired of seeing it all the time (like I did). :)
To do this, run Regedit (or Regedt32) and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Control Panel | Desktop | WindowMetrics
or if you are the only user of your Windows computer go to:
HKEY_USERS | .Default | Control Panel | Desktop | WindowMetrics
Right-click on an empty spot in the right hand pane. Select New -> String [REG_SZ] Value. Name it MinAnimate. Click OK. Double-click on "MinAnimate" and type 0 to turn OFF window animation or 1 to turn it ON. Click OK. Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows. Done.
Just remove the check mark from the "Window Animation" box under the General tab.

If you have to reinstall Windows XP you normally will have to reactivate too. Well not anymore. Just copy wpa.dbl after you activated the first time. It is located in the WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now if you reinstall Windows XP just copy the file back and you're up and running again.

CD-ROMs maybe the most popular choice for storing data especially among the home consumers but they are certainly not the most reliable backup medium.
Some experts believe that the average life of a CD written with the standard CD burner is anywhere between two and five years while the factory burnt CDs have higher life. The life of CD's may also depend on other factors like the storage environment, surrounding temperature, humidity, multiple rewrites and how often the CD is accessed by you.
CD disc can easily get damaged by finger scratches, dust, incorrect handling or if someone tries to label the CD with a pen on the shiny side. (Learn how to Clean a CD)
Whatever be the reasons for disc generation, it should be kept in mind that your CDs won't last forever. To see this for yourself, find an old CD that was bundled with the first Pentinum-I computer you bought in 1995. It might throw some unpleasant suprises.
While the best [though impractical] way to remain safe is to keep testing your collection of CDs at frequent intervals or taking backup of CD's itself on other CDs or external hard-drives, the big question is what can you do if the data contained in an old CD suddenly becomes inaccessible ? You ejected the CD to clean it with a cotton cloth but unfortunately, those precious family photographs on the CD are still unreadable.
Don't lose hope yet. If you are lucky, those important files in the corrupted CD can still be retrieved with some of these free data recovery software:
CD Check - detects and recovers damaged files on CD-ROMs. CDCheck can also be used to check the health of your existing working CDs to ensure that the data residing inside is safe.
Unstoppable Copier - Available for Windows and Linux, this free utility can copy files from disks with problems such as bad sectors, scratches or that just give errors when reading data.
Normally when your computer is unable to copy a file from a damaged disk it will abort and delete the portition of the file it has copied. This program however will continue to copy the file right to the end. Any data that is not recoverable after many retries is replaced with blanks.
IsoBuster - It supports all CD and DVD formats. Isobuster has tons of data recovery features and the basic version is free of cost.
Finally : Burn a duplicate copy of either CD or DVD if you think it is damaged, in order to avoid problems in future.

iPhone voice searching coming soon from Google
Written By Sandeep Tags: Google, Internet, IPhone, Search, TechnologyThe New York Times is reporting that Google plans to update its free search app for the iPhone as early as today.
Google has pushed its latest update to the AppStore and once Apple approves it users will be able to search for anything by simply talking into the handset. You could say "where in the world is China?" and the software would create a file of your voice, send it to Google's servers which determine what was said and then fire the result back seconds later.
Microsoft and Yahoo both offer similar services on competing devices. The service is particularly handy when you are in the car and typing in search queries is challenging and dangerous whilst driving.
